Scanlines
Turn any image into a synthwave or cyberpunk animation. Uses edge detection and particle waves to create retro-futuristic visuals from static photos in real time.
About Scanlines
Drop any photo into Scanlines and watch it dissolve into pulsing neon grids and particle waves in real time. Edge detection traces the outlines of whatever you feed it — a portrait, a cityscape, a random screenshot — and rebuilds it as a synthwave or cyberpunk animation, glowing scan lines included. The effect is genuinely different depending on what you throw at it.
It runs entirely in the browser with no account or upload required, so there's no friction between finding an image and seeing what it becomes. If you enjoy playing with generative visuals, it fits naturally alongside the rest of the creative tools in the catalog. For something complementary, Color Palette Builder is handy if you want to pull a neon palette and carry that aesthetic into other work.
It works best on high-contrast photos — sharp edges give the particle system more to trace, and the animations land harder on a dark monitor or in a dim room.
How to use
• Upload an image using the "Upload Image" button to create synthwave/cyberpunk animations from static photos • Particle waves scan across your image and interact with detected edges, creating animated effects • Use GUI controls (top-right menu) to adjust animation speed, particle count, wave direction, colors, and turbulence • Click buttons below canvas: 🎲 randomizes all settings, 🎨 randomizes colors, 🔄 restarts animation, 🎥 exports video • Keyboard shortcuts: - R: randomize all parameters - C: random color palette - Spacebar: pause/play - Enter: restart - V: start/stop video recording - S: save screenshot - U: upload new image • Choose wave starting position (left/right/top/bottom) and select from built-in cyberpunk color palettes • Works best with clean, minimal images with clear edges - consider cropping or removing backgrounds first • All processing happens in your browser - no images are uploaded to servers • Performance depends on your computer's power and the image complexity
