Liquify
A generative art tool that melts and warps images with a liquid distortion effect. Push, pull, and swirl pixels to create surreal visual art.
About Liquify
Load any image, then push the pixels around like wet paint. Liquify gives you a brush that melts, pulls, and swirls whatever is underneath it — portraits dissolve into strange new faces, landscapes warp into something between a photograph and a fever dream. There are no undo steps to worry about and no settings to configure before you start; just drag across the canvas and watch the distortion follow your cursor.
It fits naturally alongside other tools in the creative apps collection, though it occupies its own niche. Where something like JS Paint asks you to build an image from scratch, Liquify starts with one you already have and corrupts it in the most satisfying way possible. The generative quality means every stroke is slightly unpredictable — the same swirl applied twice never quite lands the same.
Works best with a trackpad or stylus where you can feel the pressure of each drag; a mouse gets the job done but slower, more deliberate strokes tend to produce the most controlled results.
How to use
• Upload an image using the file selection button or use the default image provided • Click and drag your mouse across the canvas to create fluid, liquify-like distortion effects • Use the control panel to adjust brush size, smudge size, and distortion strength • Experiment with color settings including color range, grayscale strength, and gradient colors • Choose between different background types (color grid or image) from the dropdown menu • Press "v" or use the menu to start/stop video recording of your creation • Click "Clear canvas" to reset and start over • Export your final artwork as an image or animated video • The liquify effect responds to mouse movement speed and pressure - move slowly for subtle effects or quickly for dramatic distortions • Adjust animation loops to control how the effect repeats over time
