About Derivative Calculator
Type any mathematical expression — sin(x²), e^x · ln(x), whatever you're working through — and the Derivative Calculator returns the derivative instantly, then plots both the original function and its derivative on an interactive graph. You can adjust the expression on the fly and watch the curves update in real time, which makes it genuinely useful for building intuition about how a function's slope behaves across its domain.
It handles constants, composite functions, and most of the expressions that show up in a standard calculus course. This isn't a step-by-step solver, so it works best as a checking tool or a visual aid rather than a replacement for working problems by hand. Students revising for exams will get the most out of it, but it's also handy for anyone who needs a quick sanity check on a derivative.
If you want to go further with function plotting, Graphing Calculator covers similar ground but focuses purely on visualization across multiple functions at once. Both apps live in education. A keyboard makes entering complex expressions much faster than a touchscreen.
How to use
This tool calculates derivatives of mathematical functions and displays visual graphs of both the original function and its derivative. • Type a mathematical expression in the input field using standard notation (x, x^2, sin(x), etc.) • Use operators: + - * / ^ for basic operations and exponents • Supported functions include: sin, cos, tan, log, ln, sqrt, abs, and more • Click "Go!" or press Enter to calculate the derivative • The calculated derivative appears in mathematical notation below your input • A graph shows both your original function and its derivative plotted together • Use mouse to interact with the graph - hover for values, zoom, and pan • The x-axis range adjusts automatically based on your function • Clear the input field to enter a new expression and recalculate • Examples to try: x^2, sin(x), 2*x + 3, or more complex expressions like x^3 - 2*x + 1
