About Gomoku
Place a stone. Then another. The goal is deceptively simple: line up five of your stones in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — before your opponent does the same. Gomoku has been played for centuries, and that longevity is earned. Every move is a quiet negotiation between building your own threat and dismantling theirs.
What makes it compelling is how quickly the board fills with tension. An open-ended four-in-a-row is nearly unstoppable; two simultaneous threats are impossible to block. Beginners can enjoy casual back-and-forth games, while seasoned players will recognize classic patterns and set traps several moves in advance. It belongs comfortably among strategy and board games that reward careful thinking over quick reflexes. If you enjoy this kind of positional puzzle, Chess is worth a look too.
Games typically run five to fifteen minutes, making it a natural fit for a quick session on a laptop or desktop where a full keyboard and mouse give you the most precise control.
How to use
• Goal: Be the first player to get five pieces in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on the board • Click anywhere on the grid to place your piece at the nearest intersection of the board lines • Players alternate turns - black pieces move first, then white pieces • Once a piece is placed, it cannot be moved or removed • The game automatically detects when someone achieves five in a row and declares the winner • In multiplayer mode, the first player to join gets black pieces and moves first • To play with someone else, share your game URL so they can join as the second player • No cheating is allowed - illegal moves will be prevented by the game
