About Go (Weiqi)
Place a black or white stone, stake out territory, and watch the board shift with every move. Go (Weiqi) puts a clean, full-size 19×19 board in your browser — the complete grid is rendered on an HTML5 Canvas, so a larger screen genuinely helps because every intersection stays crisp and easy to tap precisely. Play a live game against yourself or a friend passing the keyboard, then load an SGF file to replay and study any game you've saved or downloaded.
The built-in SGF viewer is where this app earns its keep. Step forward and backward through moves, revisit a joseki sequence, or post-mortem your own blunders at your own pace. There's no clock pressure, no rating at stake — just the board and the stones.
Go sits firmly in the strategy games category, and if you prefer a Western classic, Chess goes in a different direction but rewards the same kind of patient, positional thinking. A mouse or stylus makes stone placement noticeably more accurate than a phone touchscreen.
How to use
Place black and white stones on a 19x19 grid to capture territory and opponent stones. OBJECTIVE: Control more territory than your opponent by the end of the game. CONTROLS: • Click any intersection on the grid to place a stone • Players alternate turns - black goes first • Pass your turn if no good moves remain BASIC RULES: • Stones with no adjacent empty spaces (liberties) are captured and removed • You cannot place a stone where it would have no liberties unless it captures opponent stones • You cannot recreate the exact same board position from the previous turn • Game ends when both players pass consecutively SCORING: • Count empty intersections you control (territory) • Add captured opponent stones to your score • White gets bonus points for going second • Highest total wins STRATEGY TIP: Focus on surrounding territory rather than just capturing individual stones.
