About Backgammon
Roll the dice, then make your move — literally. You're shifting checkers across the board, racing to bear them all off before your opponent does the same. Every roll hands you a choice: play safe and stack your pieces, or run aggressively and risk getting hit. That tension between caution and speed is what makes backgammon one of the oldest strategy games still worth playing.
This browser version keeps things clean and faithful to the classic rules. The AI gives you a real opponent to think against, and there's no account or setup required — just open it and go. If you enjoy this kind of classic board game strategy, Chess is another strong option for turn-based play against a CPU opponent.
Best played with a few minutes to spare — a single game typically runs 10 to 20 minutes depending on how the dice fall.
How to use
• **Objective**: Move all your checkers around the board to your home area, then bear them off before your opponent does • **Setup**: You control either white or black checkers positioned on triangular points around the board • **Turn Flow**: Roll dice by clicking the dice area, then move your checkers the number of spaces shown • **Moving Checkers**: Click and drag checkers to valid destination points. You must use both die values if possible • **Valid Moves**: Land only on empty points, points with your checkers, or points with a single opponent checker (which gets "hit" and sent to the bar) • **Bar Rules**: If your checker is hit, you must re-enter it from the bar into opponent's home area before making other moves • **Bearing Off**: Once all your checkers reach your home area (points 1-6), you can remove them from the board using dice rolls • **Winning**: First player to bear off all checkers wins
