Vargrim Depths
A text-based dungeon crawler in the old MUD tradition. Descend seven floors of procedurally dealt rooms, fight in deliberate turn-based combat that asks you to read each enemy, across six classes and six bloodlines, and spend the embers of every death on permanent power at the Last Hearth.
About Vargrim Depths
The Cinder King wears the Ember Crown seven floors beneath the Last Hearth, and every torch in the world burns a little shorter for it. Vargrim Depths is a text-based dungeon crawler in the spirit of the classic MUDs — written room descriptions, ASCII monsters, a command line — wrapped around a modern roguelite core.
Delve, die, return stronger
- Seven procedurally dealt floors: bonepaths, fungal warrens, drowned galleries, ashen vaults, cinderworks, a slag cathedral, and the Undercrown itself.
- Deliberate turn-based combat — attack, skill, item, or flee. Enemies telegraph heavy blows, resist the wrong damage type, regenerate, and enrage when cornered, so every fight asks you to read it.
- A barred-stair mid-boss guards the descent, and the Cinder King reads your blows at the bottom.
- Your torch is the clock: every step and every blow burns light, and the dark fights dirty.
- Shrines, gamblers, murals, and a pale peddler between the fights.
Death is progress
- Every run earns embers, spent at the Keeper's Ledger on permanent stats, provisions, universal arts, commissioned trinkets, and new classes.
- Six classes — Sellsword, Knave, Warden, Pyre Friar, Hexen, and the Crownless (earned, not bought) — each with a three-skill kit.
- Six bloodlines with distinct passive traits, from the dark-sighted Stonekin to the Gravewrought, who refuse their first death.
- Cloud saves follow you between devices; a leaderboard ranks the deepest delvers.
Type help when you forget your manners. The Depths keep what they catch.
How to use
Type commands (help lists them) or tap the buttons. In combat press A/S/I/F for Attack/Skill/Item/Flee. Your torch is your clock — every step and every blow burns light, and at zero the dark fights dirty, so keep it lit. Death is progress: embers persist and buy permanent upgrades, new skills, items, and classes at the Keeper’s Ledger.
