Breakout

You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, bouncing a ball upward to smash through rows of bricks before they outlast you. Breakout keeps the formula tight — angle your shots, chase combo chains, and grab power-ups that drop when bricks shatter. Some bricks take multiple hits, others behave differently, so each of the five level layouts has its own rhythm to figure out.

A global leaderboard gives every run a reason to matter beyond just clearing the screen. The scoring rewards precision: a well-placed streak through a packed row will pull you up the rankings faster than cautious play. It's the kind of arcade game that's easy to pick up in two minutes but harder to put down once you're chasing a personal best. Snake covers similar ground if you want another classic with a leaderboard to climb.

A mouse or trackpad gives you the smoothest paddle control, since fine lateral movement is everything here — keyboard play works but limits how precisely you can react to tight angles.
